SNOW DAMAGE - Winter of 2009-2010
Many people, especially in the northeast corridor of Washington, Baltimore, and Philadelphia experienced significant snow damage to their boxwoods during the major storms that hit the area. Even as far south as Richmond and parts of North Carolina there were reports of significant damage caused by snow.
Stephen Southall, with over 40 years of experience in English Boxwood, can help you assess the damage that you might have incurred and help you to formulate a treatment/rehabilitation plan for your plants. English Boxwood are amazingly resilient in terms of their ability to overcome damage and rejuvenate themselves. Because the plants are very valuable, it is certainly worth the effort to work with them and begin the restoration process that will bring them back to their original beautiful state.
It may be that your boxwood did not enter the winter with totally healthy foliage and a good dark green color. In this case, the cold and the snow certainly dealt them a double-whammy blow. If this is the case, an assessment of their environment and growing conditions will allow you to take the necessary steps to restore them to a healthy state. This revitalization process is, in most cases, a very simple one but very necessary for them to be able to make the most of this growing season and prepare them for next winter.
A consultation for your boxwood is a very prudent step to take because in most cases the consult is a very small outlay compared to the value of the plants and it is certainly less expensive than the cost of replacement. At a time when there are so many use and discard items in our life, it is certainly comforting and reassuring to know that there are solutions and treatments available to restore the most regal of all landscaping plants- the English boxwood.
Call or email Stephen Southall to discuss your English Boxwood conditions and options for restoration.
